Happy New Year Everyone,

Some of you probably noticed the downtime last night and this morning. The site has been converted to vBulletin. This will allow us to get better plugin support, mobile support and, in general, a better experience.

There are two techs that did the conversion and will handle any problems, Please reply to this thread if you find anything wrong and they will resolve it. The import took most of the night but should all be there.

Thanks,
CarKnee

hi,

great job pulling this off in less then 24 hours. personally, i am sooooooo glad to see the change, as a systems consultant, i found the old site almost too annoying to use.

i used a url of http://www.rswarrior.com/forums/topicsactive.aspx to look at the latest postings in order, i read the faq's and didnt see a direct replacement, is there one? i tended to look on not logged on computers, so the logon solutions are not much help.

thanx

Mark,

For us Gold Members (paid Supporters) will there be any extra benefits?

Like:

1. Able to use Pics in Signature
2. More space for our Uploaded Files Area
3. Larger available Gallery Space
4. Able to Post Larger Pages
5. Supporting Badges

Or any other enhancement?

Thanks

Mark,

I've read the WordPress site. It appears their blog key code is available only for their .wordpress located blogs? It looks like maybe an akismet blog key can be applied to our blogs located here, but the code field won't accept the 'free' akismet key code I received.

I'm new to this stuff, so I've read what I can, but sure could use an assist with a blog-key when things settle down for you.

Mark - Is it possible that we can have back the option to be able to edit our posts?
I need the ability to be able to edit / update my thread to show various lists and to add items / information to the posts as they change over time rather than repeating posts to include new details. For example: post #1 and post #61 in the following thread need to be updated as things progress.

I know we can edit a post within a certain time of submitting it - but the ability to return to that post later is invaluable.
I realise you are flat out, but..... :)

Thanks for your time.

Mark,

I found a slight bug in the migration, while it's cosmetic it would render some post kinda hard to follow/read.

On the old forum QUOTES were made with this code (quote="UserName")

On this new forum QUOTES are made with this code (quote=UserName)

All the old post from the old forum with quotes in them are not being shown as quotes but instead the code is being shown.

Either a filter/Replace would have to be applied to ALL the old posts or the way this forum creates or handles QUOTES needs to be changed.

In my case I would just apply a replace filter to replace all accurances of "quote=" to "quote=" , but I'm thinking the amount of post to be processed would be HUGE!

Here is a link to the test Thread on this topic: http://www.rswarrior.com/forums/48-testing-forums/169525-quote-tests.html

BTW Mark - this needs to apply to existing posts.

Will that be the case? I need to edit / update some stuff.
As far as I'm concerned - a year is prob enough.

Unless of course anyone else thinks otherwise?

Thanks again!
  • Mark unless there is an Archive or operational software issue i see no reason why there should be a time limit to modify posts. The new software has a visible date stamp seen by ALL as used in the earlier days when i first joined.
    • At times i'll correct old posts with formatting issues or add new url/threads for the members.
Mark .. What's the story with the old forum TAGS .... will they be added back and functional? Tags no longer work!

Thanks

Obviously to reduce spam your guys will implement the Email confirmation and I'm guessing you guys are in the midsts of configuring your SMTP for this.

Mean while you could use a CAPTCHA image to reduce the spam if you are not already.

Never mind, just verified you do already have a captcha image.

I guess these spammers are taking the time to actually register manually...

I haven't been around here much, but that may change soon. Also, the new site is nice and once they get the proper photos on the home page it will be superb. I imagine there will be some things to get used to. I'm sure I'll have some questions once I hang around a bit.

I haven't logged in in a while and I was shocked, surprised and VERY scared for a moment. Carknee had said he wasnt interested in changing forum software so i thought that was that. Today I see Roadstars and Vbulletin and i thought for a sec that Carknee maybe sold out to one of the big forum companies and that would NOT have been a good thing.

Welcome to 2011 indeed. Carknee, i know this was probably a hard decision, time will tell if it was good decision, but im thrilled about the new changes in the mean time.

Thank you very much for such an awesome present!!!

Great job guys, the site looks great, thanks for all the hard work so far.

Couple questions, on the active topics page is there any way to get the subforum that the thread is located in added to the list? For example, the way it's set up now if there is a thread in there about handlebars, you can't tell if it's in the for sale section or general discussion until you click it. Not a big deal but it would make the site a little cleaner.
Also how about a way to go to a specific page in a thread from the active topics page? The page numbers show up everywhere else in the forum but for some reason in the active threads view they don't show.

any chance of getting a "view posts since last visit" button? -edit- never mind on this one just saw the "today's posts" under the quick links, that'll work

Keep up the great work guys!

I agree it would be nice to know where the topic is posted, especially for moderation purposes. For now I mouse-over the link and read the url to check where it is. Hopefully they can fix that.

As far as jumping to the first new post just click the down arrow in front of the link, looks like this

and it will do that for you.

Change can be good, but I hope the new site doesnt put off any long time members. A lot of people hate using computers! Also hate change! They would only just have started getting used to the old one lol. I was just wondering, did anyone make an announcement that the site was going to be changed over or was it decided that it was just going to be a nice suprise? lol. This is the first time Ive logged on to the new site so Im going to give it a few weeks until I decide if its better or not :)
