The black horizontal cylinder positioned just below the top fuel tank (silver disconnect press-lever) is likely cracked in the back. It was common on 2002 bikes. Get a replacement off a 2003 or newer Warrior. See also the thread discussing fuel leaks. I'll get a link for you.

I know nothing about Yamaha but I was made an offer I couldn’t refuse on a 2002 Warrior that had some mouse damaged wires.

got that fixed and am looking for sidecovers. I will need to go through brakes etc. and a gas leak to chase down.

The parts you seek are quite rare but they do come up for sale from time to time. You just have to be ready to pounce as soon as you see them. A set was recently sold so hang in there. These bikes have Ben out of production for almost 15 years so parts are harder to come by.

 

Until I came along....

We just need to find him a small bracket for the fuel side of the bike so the cover can be put on....

I found it! I even found the OEM bolts that hold the cover on.

Now this man's beauty can be put together!
Another purple bike with chrome shall live another day.
